Meet  founder Mehala Ford

Mehala’s journey in fashion began in the late 1990s at the London College of Fashion studying Fashion Promotion, followed by iconic early years working in-house at Alexander McQueen.

She went on to champion young British design talent at Concrete PR, supporting emerging names like Preen, and Robert Cary-Williams.

“After years of working behind the scenes in fashion, I felt a growing pull towards something more personal—something that honoured my roots.”

In 2017, I started writing a blog exploring the sari as a way of connecting to her Sri Lankan roots. That desire, exploration and broad research grew into the Friday Sari Project - a concept store and space that brings together the bold, beautiful creativity emerging from India, Sri Lanka, and the diaspora.

Mehala has since become and expert in the contemporary South Asian creative and design scene, consulting and curating several programmes for Royal Museums Greenwich.

“This is my love letter to contemporary South Asian design and culture, and a space for reimagining heritage in our own way and in our own words and style.”

She moved between high fashion and high street, working as Press Officer at department store Debenhams during the golden era of of the British High Street and launching 'Designers at Debenhams'.
