It starts with a Book

For Christmas I asked for this book 'Saris: Tradition and Beyond' by Rta Kapur Chishti. I came across it in when doing some research on sari wrapping. I want to find ways to bring the sari into my life as a way of exploring my cultural identity. I figure this book is a good place to start. I've heard that Rta Kapur Chishti does sari wrapping workshops in India...if only that was here.

This is a huge tome of a book with 108 different ways to wrap a sari and detailed drawings of each style. I particularly find the styles worn by labourers and fisherwomen most interesting as these look very practical and have possibilities to be versatile to style.

When passing it around the family it was interesting to my mum and aunts as they had no idea there were so many sari styles and they only wear one, the Nivi Style. It looks like we could all do with some extra ideas.
